The region is buzzing with excitement about the opening of the 2010 season of The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse with The Drowsy Chaperone. It all begins when a die-hard musical fan plays his favorite cast album, a 1928 smash hit called “The Drowsy Chaperone,” and the show magically bursts into life. The Playhouse is proud to present the regional premiere of the 5 time Tony Award winning musical starring past leader of Syracuse Stage and Hangar Theatre, Robert Moss as the die-hard fan and narrator known as “The Man in the Chair.” The audience will be instantly immersed in the excitement of the “Roaring Twenties” with the glamorous, hilarious tale of a celebrity bride preparing for her uproarious wedding day.Along with Moss the cast includes MGR veterans Sandra Karas and Geno Carr returning to play Mrs. Tottendale and her inflexibly proper butler, the Underling; Julie Cardia plays the title role; Bethany Moore stars as bride-to-be, Janet Van De Graff; Brad Nacht and Jenny Long as a sort of George Burns and Gracie Allen team as Feldzieg and Kitty respectively; Bruce Warren stars as the over-acting pseudo-latin lover Aldolpho and Maddy Apple, Danny Gardner, Miles Jackson, Christopher Shin, and Stephen Simowski complete the list of returning cast members.Producing Director of the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Ed Sayles directs the talented cast with Corinne Aquilina as musical director and Lori Leshner choreographing tap numbers and the Charleston alike. Notable songs include “As We Stumble Along,” “Show Off” and “Love Is Always Lovely.” The Drowsy Chaperone celebrates every wonderful showbiz cliché from the glamorous stars to comically sinister gangsters and everything in between.General Admission Tickets are $34-$40.
