Local Lion receives Humanitarian Award – FingerLakes1.com Archive

At the 2010 District Governor Testimonial Dinner, the annual gathering of 170 Lions Officials from 45 Clubs witnessed the presentation of a Past District Governor Humanitarian Award to a Lodi resident, Lion Robert Covert. The honor recognizes Mr Covert’s contribution to the community for his service in the Ovid-Willard Lions and local Firefighters. In recommending him, Club President Phyllis Motill provides this insight .“Lion Bob Covert has been a member of the Ovid Willard Lions Club for 9 ½ years.He is an exemplary Lion who participates through his attendance at all Club Meetings, and Activities. He served many years on our Board and contributes readily with actions and suggestions to improve the Club. He is chairman of our Eye Glasses and Hearing Aids recycling project and our Calendar Ads Fundraising Campaign. The reason we are nominating Lion Bob for the Humanitarian Award is his devotion to firefighting and his concern for humanity. Lion Bob has been a fireman since he was 16 years old and has assisted with many lifesaving acts throughout this time. Through his example, his son is following in his footsteps.Lion Bob is an assistant to the local Funeral Director and shows his concern for humanity through the care he gives to the living and dying. His respect for the families and friends during the time of grief is heartwarming to everyone who comes in contact with Lion Bob.Lion Bob’s wife, Lion Joan has been very ill for the past 2 years and Lion Bob has been by her side through surgery, extensive treatments, long rides to the doctors and hospitals and undying positive support. Their daughter is a resident of a home for physically and mentally challenged individuals and they visit her regularly. He is truly a loving and devoted husband and father.Through all of his obligations Lion Bob always finds time to participate and attend our Lion functions and events. He is always there with a cheery smile and a warm pat on the back for jobs well done.”Mr Covert is a Vice President in the Ovid-Willard Club who will become President for the Lion year 2011-12.As this honor is a first for a Club member, the Club Officers are particularly proud to see him selected out of 1200 Lions.
