Bauder named to head Cornell Cooperative Ext.

W. Averell H. Bauder has been appointed Executive Director of the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Seneca County. He will begin on June 1, 2010.As chief executive officer of the Seneca County Association, Bauder oversees a community-based educational outreach agency with local, state and national networks. He is responsible for fostering effective partnerships among the Association, governmental agencies, educational partners, and civic interest groups. His position reports jointly to the Association Board of Directors, chaired by Sharon Secor, and the Cornell University Cooperative Extension System, directed by Helene R. Dillard. The Extension System is engaged in five priority program areas statewide and in Seneca County: agriculture and food systems; children, youth and families; community and economic vitality; environment and natural resources; and nutrition and health.Bauder brings to the Association 10 years of experience as the Director of the Center for Community Engagement and Service-Learning at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Prior to Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Bauder worked for the American Red Cross. He served as the Executive Director of the Seneca County American Red Cross Chapter among other positions.Bauder holds a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from Syracuse University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Hobart College. He is active in several organizations including Christ Episcopal Church, Rotary, and youth Lacrosse.
