Rural Health Quality Conference—May 20th, Geneva

Wayland, New York, May 4, 2010 – The New York State Association for Rural Health (NYSARH) is hosting a one-day Quality Conference on May 20th at the Ramada Geneva Lakefront Hotel. The Conference has two tracks: The Future of Aging Services: Planning for 2020 and Beyond; and Best Practices and New Ways in Oral Health. The Best Practice and New Ways in Oral Health track includes five (5) Continuing Education (CE) Credits for dental health professionals. The Oral Health track features Dr. Stephen Damelio, President of the 7th District Dental Society; Dr. Jayanth Kumar, Director, NYS Department of Health Dental Bureau; Dr. David Schirmer, and Ms. Laura Leon, NYS Dental Foundation; Dr. Mark Feldman, NYS Dental Association; Laurie Turner, Community Dentistry Program Rushville Health Center and Dr. Thomas Curran, NYS Oral Health Coalition. The oral health topics include Dental Case Management, Flouride Varnish, Access to Health Care Efforts, New Guidelines for Perinatal Women, and A Model to Improve Access and Efficiency. The Future of Aging Services kicks off with a keynote presentation from the NYS Office of the Aging. Participants in this track will learn about the findings of the Sage Commission, a group convened by the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency. The Sage Commission has been working to create a strategic vision of person-centered aging services for the year 2020 and beyond. Special attention will be given to ways to minimize disparities in health status and improve access to appropriate care. The Conference includes various sessions that address planning to practice, and include relevant needs of aging communities such as housing, transportation and caregiver supports.
