At approximately 9:30 am today, a minor incident occurred at the Seneca Meadows Landfill involving a landfill gas crew worker. The incident occurred as the employee was installing a section of header pipe. According to Landfill officials, a brief flash resulted when the employee was unscrewing a flange for the piping.The employee suffered minor burns, and as a precaution, was taken to Upstate Medical Center for evaluation, and has already been released.Landfill District Manager Don Gentilcore stated “We are grateful to our employees, and the local emergency personnel who responded so quickly to the minor incident at our site this morning. Obviously, our first priority is the safety of our employees and we will review the situation, in accordance with our policies and procedures, to ensure that if any corrective measures need to be taken we will implement them immediately.”Seneca Meadows has an outstanding safety record, and followed standard operating procedures for the incident. Employees just finished an 8 hour annual refresher training last week.The Waterloo Fire Department and the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department responded to the 911 call made by Landfill personnel.
