Now you can build your own wood-burning masonry heater capable of keeping your house warm all year – for about a dollar a day! Empire Masonry Heaters wants to show you how. Empire Masonry Heaters (www.EmpireMasonryHeaters.com), the Scottsville, N.Y. – based manufacturer of the only modularly-constructed masonry heater in North America, is offering homeowners and contractors the opportunity to see how easy it is to build Empire’s Envirotech heater core and custom exterior veneer. The free hands-on seminar is taking place at 243 Reed Road, Scottsville (between Morgan and Ballantyne roads), on Saturday, May 1st, beginning at 11 a.m. The event begins with company owner Jon Steele assembling the first few layers of the heater core using pre-cast tongue and groove veneer. From there, seminar participants will be invited to complete the project. “Typically, these modular heaters can be constructed by two people in two days,” Steele said. “All of the castings are numbered. It’s just like putting together a LEGO set, only bigger.” A free pizza party and cooking demonstration using wood-fired bread ovens constructed by Empire Masonry Heaters follows at 3 p.m.Reservations are recommended.
