WATERLOO – Who are those unsung heroes who make our community a better place?Waterloo students in grades 3 through 12 were asked to write about the men, women and young people who make a difference in their community. Alternately, they could write about what they could do to make a difference. Prizes were awarded to two winners in each grade during ceremonies in the Waterloo Middle School. Each winner received a $50 savings bond sponsored by Savannah Bank and the New York State Jaycees in association with the American Legion, VFW, Waterloo Educators Association and Seneca County retired teachers. President Teddy Roosevelt attended the award ceremony on Thursday. The winning essays are on display in Lafayette Park. Pupils in kindergarten through second grade were invited to draw a picture of a local hero. Their pictures are on display in the windows of downtown businesses.
