Second body recovered from Canandaigua Lake

A Yates County Sheriff’s Patrol boat with Marine Patrol Officers checking the lake prior to divers beginning their search discovered a body approx 150 feet from shore in about ten feet of water North of the Willow Grove Point in Vine Valley and Northeast of the capsize point. The lake was very clear water today and bright sun made visibility from the surface very good. The body has been identified as that of RANDALL “RJ” LIS, age 20 of Victor, NY. Yates County Coroner Gary Boardman has been called to the scene and the body will be taken to the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital Morgue in Penn Yan, NY. The body of FLOYD “ZACK” FREY age 19 of Canandaigua, NY was located by divers on Saturday 4/17. The lake search has been continuing since they were reported missing early morning of April 16. “We believe the canoe capsize took place at approx 1:30AM Thursday, April 15th”, Said Sheriff Spike. Several divers from Ontario, Wayne, Livingston and Yates Co Sheriff’s Dive Teams and State Police divers, along with divers’ from Branchport-Keuka Park F.D. and Richmond F.D. had assembled to continue to search the lake this morning when the body was found by Marine Patrol. “RJ’s mother said to us yesterday – please, please find my son” said Sheriff Spike. “All the searchers are relieved we have been successful in locating both boys for their families and I thanks the many agencies and volunteers that assisted.”This tragedy and recovery marks the eighth body pulled from the waters of area lakes in the past month.
