RED BULL CHARIOT RACE COMES TO ITHACA NYSTUDENTS WILL RACE DOWN WEST STATE STREET WITH GREEK TRADITION AND CREATIVITY ITHACA, NY – March 24, 2010 – Not just some “Toga! Toga! Toga!” party, Red Bull Chariot Race fuses together ancient Greek sport with Modern Greek life and bloodthirsty rivalry with elite partying. Red Bull Chariot Race at Ithaca is part of a burgeoning event taking place at 10 Universities across the US this spring. With 12 participating teams of three students, each group of participants will be tasked with creating a custom human-powered Chariot, racing the non-equestrian vehicle in a challenging course downtown. STRUT, SWEAT, SPEED AND STYLETeams will dutifully represent their squad of Gods using creativity, Greek spirit and craftsmanship – all while rocking a toga, of course. The 12 teams from universities across Upstate New York will race head-to-head in three rounds, each led by their chosen “pilot,” but all three teammates must pull and/or ride the 2-wheeled craft with a strut. The course will incorporate the corner of N Cayuga St and W State St in downtown Ithaca, NY. Pits open at 6pm with racing beginning at 7pm. The event is free and open to all spectators. Also adorning in togas will be MC Pat Morgan, Judges, DJ Disco Lobos, and the official Red Bull Chariot Race Ithaca Award Presenters. In addition to a few rules, racing homemade Chariots in various (and possibly ridiculous) togas and helmets, the teams and chariots will be judged by the panel on a few different criteria and three teams will be crowned winners at the Awards Ceremony following the final race. TOGA ALL DAY, TOGA ALL NIGHTIf a toga can stay on during a race like this one, then it will stay on for the celebratory Toga After-Party. Red Bull Chariot Race will be capped off at Dino’s and will be open to all students 21 +.For more information, visit www.redbullchariotrace.com.
