Castile & USDA Present 13 Million to Medical Center

What: The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development agency and the Bank of Castile will present an $11.5 million loan to the United Memorial Medical Center (UMMC). The Bank of Castile is making the loan through USDA Rural Development’s Community Facilities program, which is providing a 90 percent guarantee for the loan. The funding will enable UMMC to construct a 44,000 square-foot expansion, which will include five operating rooms, a pre-/post-operative area and 19 recovery areas. A new lobby, new handicap accessible entrance and space for the medical center’s imaging and surgical equipment will also be added. USDA Rural Development also will award more than $1.5 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding to UMMC. The medical center has just been approved to receive a $1,383,390 Community Facilities direct loan and $145,000 Community Facilities grant. These ARRA funds will be used to purchase equipment for the surgery expansion project.
