Body pulled from Canandaigua Lake, search continues

Approximately 15 Divers from the Yates, Ontario County Sheriff’s along with divers from Branchport-Keuka Park Fire Department and Richmond Fire Department continued the search for RANDALL “RJ” LIS age 20 still missing this afternoon, assisted by state police sonar and Yates and Ontario Sheriff’s Marine Patrol boats. Branchport-Keuka Park Fire Department divers did locate the pants of RJ LIS at approx 4PM about 200 yards from shore using underwater power sleds and deputies did locate his ID, license etc inside the pants. Search efforts have concentrated in this area.Earlier Saturday, Ten divers executing a line search located a body in 18 feet of water approx 200 feet off shore just north of the Vine Valley Trailer Park Point (not far from where Sheriff says they launched) at 11:45 am. The body has been identified as FLOYD “ZACK” FREY age 19 of 25 Douglas Drive in Canandaigua, NY. Diver bought the body to shore and Yates County Coroner Doug Marchionda Jr. has ordered the body to Soldiers and Sailors in Penn Yan, NY for an autopsy to determine cause of death.The second day of the search was concluded at 5:00 pm on Saturday evening. According to Sheriff Ronald Spike, search efforts are currently hampered by the weather conditions of cold, wind, and choppy 40 degree Canandaigua Lake. Search efforts will continue on Sunday, April 18 with sonar and using an underwater camera sub system. Given the weather conditions divers may not be utilized Sunday. If the body is not located we the search will continue with several divers on Monday, April 19 given the weather predictions to be partly sunny and a calmer lake. The Middlesex Ambulance corps and Fire Dept are also on scene as his EMS Coordinator. The Ontario County OEM communications vehicle is serving as the command post at Vine Valley.According to investigation both left the Lis vehicle parked on the point and took out a canoe in the early morning hours of Thursday, April 15 and indications are they capsized and both drowned as the water temperature is approx. 39 degrees. Articles of clothing and the canoe were recovered yesterday in the 600-700 block of the lake ¼ mile North of Vine Valley.Sheriffs Spike thanks the many agencies and volunteers assisting at the scene.
