The Cultural Council of Cortland County is sponsoring Spring art classes. All classes will be held in the Cultural Council Workshop Room on the 2nd floor at 9N Main St., from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The six week course begins Monday, April 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The course is designed for students of all levels and experience. Dick Mitchell is a world-renown artist of extraordinary range and skill. He is also amazingly prolific, averaging a staggering 130 paintings of complex mediums and materials a year. If one were to try and categorize Mitchell’s particular style, it would defy description; his artistic sense leads him in many different directions. LIFE DRAWING, taught by George Dugan. The six week class will meet Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 beginning April 14. The course is intended for students of all levels and experience. A minimum number of eight students is required. George Dugan is one of America’s foremost representational artists. His works are held in numerous private and public collections in the United States and abroad and have been widely exhibited in museums and galleries. He is known for his handling of color, virtuoso technique in a wide range of mediums, and an “eye” for composition. Critics have said that Dugan’s style of realism has the power to bring beauty and life to everything he represents. An ongoing class which meets Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30. David explores the many facets of watercolor in an informal, supportive and lively environment. David likes to expose participants to a wide variety of approaches to watercolor painting. He helps students find their own way in developing a style to express their individual uniqueness. An extended series of classes on portrait painting is now in progress. Classes are designed for all levels of experience. The six-week session began Thursday, April 1, and meets on Thursdays evenings from 6:30 to 8:30. The class is led by a facilitator with no formal instruction. Individual sessions can be attended and paid for on a per class basis. Students under the age of 18 must bring parental permission. Nude models will begin with short gesture poses, and the length of poses will be increased to a final pose of 45 minutes. No experience is necessary.
