PENN YAN, NY Anthony Road Wine Co. is continuing a winning streak, with its wines collecting honors from California to the Finger Lakes.Anthony Road¹s 2008 Semi Sweet Riesling received the John Rose Award for the best Riesling at the 10th annual Finger Lakes International Wine Competitionin Rochester last weekend (March 27 and 28).The local winery¹s 2008 Martini-Reinhardt Selection Riesling Berry Selection received a Platinum Medal at the 27th annual San Diego International WineCompetition, held March 20 and 21.Two other Anthony Road wines won Silver Medals at the San Diego competition: the 2007 Cabernet Franc/Lemberger and the 2008 Martini Reinhardt Selection Riesling Trockenbeeren.The Finger Lakes contest is one of the nation¹s largest wine competitions. This year, the competition had a record number of entries 3,010 competingwines from 666 wineries representing 15 countries and all 50 states. Organizers said last weekend¹s contest at the Rochester Plaza Hotel was the first competition with entries from every state.More than 50 judges from around the world tasted wines at the Finger Lakes competition, including Anthony Road assistant winemaker Peter Becraft, FoxRun Vineyards owner Scott Osborn and Fox Run winemaker Peter Bell. More than 100 competing wineries were from the Finger Lakes region. Both Anthony Road and Fox Run are on the western shore of Seneca Lake, south of Geneva.The Finger Lakes competition benefits Camp Good Days and Special Times, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality oflife for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other challenges through summer camping experiences and otheractivities. Last summer, more than 1,500 children, including children with cancer from several foreign countries, participated in Camp Good Daysactivities at its recreational facility on Keuka Lake.The Finger Lakes competition is to end with the 10th annual Wine Auction Dinner on May 1 at the Rochester Plaza Hotel.
