Seneca Co. Suspect Apprehended After Crash

seneca coSeneca County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested Curtis D. McCormick, age 45, of 204 Lynch Avenue, Apt. A2, Syracuse, New York for Burglary in the Second Degree, Attempted Burglary in the Second Degree, Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Dublin Road in Junius at about 10:38am when a witness saw McCormick attempting to break into his daughters home. The witness called 911 and gave dispatchers a description of the suspect and his vehicle. The suspect fled the scene in his tan 2001 Mazda MPV mini van. While attempting to get away McCormick crashed his van on Thompson Station Road near Rt. 14 in Ontario County. An Ontario County Deputy responded to the accident scene and discovered the driver was the suspect. While investigating the attempted burglary Sheriff’s Investigators received a report of a second burglary located on Larson Road in the Town of Junius in which a laptop computer and handgun were stolen. The laptop computer was recovered in McCormick’s van and the handgun was found hidden in the leaves next to where the van was crashed. Other stolen property was located in a barn at the accident scene. McCormick was arraigned before the Town of Junius Court and was committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility with no bail. He is scheduled to reappear on 03/23/10 at 7:00pm. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and the NYS Police assisted in the investigation. Investigator’s are requesting that anyone in the area who may have witnessed the suspect or his van to please call the Seneca County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division at 315-220-3240.
