Federation Celebrates First 100 Years

The public is invited to attend Women Making History Day at the Women’s Community Building on Tuesday, March 30. This year’s commemoration of national Women’s History Month will celebrate the centennial of the City Federation of Women’s Organizations of Ithaca, NY. The Federation was founded in 1910 by the Ithaca Woman’s Club, the Political Study Club (now the League of Women Voters of Tompkins County) and the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.The Ithaca Woman’s Club, the League of Women Voters, and other federated organizations will be creatively presenting 100 years of local history. Music, costumes, drama, and many heroines will be featured. Several women will be honored for their outstanding service to the community including Roberta Dingman, For Flumerfelt, Fair Gouldin, Sarah Johnson, Pat Sims, Betty Steele, and Aafke Steenhuis.Women Making History 2010 begins with an open house at 6:30 p.m. where the public can see displays and the large Women’s History Timeline that surrounds the auditorium. The program will be begin at 7:00 p.m. There will be door prizes, refreshments, and a special 100th anniversary birthday cake. This event is free and open to the public.
