On Monday, March 8th, 2010, at about 5:44 PM, the Waterloo PoliceDepartment arrested Michael A. Young (17) of 82 Washington Street,Waterloo, NY 13165 for arson in the 4th degree (felony) and two counts ofreckless endangerment following a reported structure fire at 82 WashingtonStreet in the Village. It is alleged that Young used a lighter to light a small piece of cardboard on fire in his bedroom and then threw it into a dresser drawer causing the dresser to catch on fire. At the time of the fire there were two other people in the residence who reported seeing the smoke coming from the upstairs bedroom. Waterloo Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire before it could spread into any other rooms in the house. The damage to the structure was contained to the bedroom where the fire started and there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire. Young is to appear in the Waterloo Village Court at a later date toanswer to these charges.
