Albany, New York . . .February 24, 2010 — “Today Eric Massa became the latest in a growing list of New York Democrats to abandon public life under a cloud of suspicion and corruption. First, Massa took more than $75,000 from disgraced Congressman Charlie Rangel and then refused to return the cash after the House Ethics Committee found Rangel violated ethics rules. Now, new allegations of sexual misconduct are dogging the soon-to-be former Congressman. Like so many other New York Democrats, his personal and professional behavior has left Massa scrambling for self-preservation rather than focused on public service. The people of New York’s 29th Congressional District deserve better and they will be better served by a Republican who fights for them in Washington to lower taxes, create jobs and keep our nation safe. The sheer number of scandals, investigations and questions about the behavior of New York’s Democratic officials have again cast a dark cloud over our government. With each passing day it appears New York Democrats are being consumed by a culture of corruption to the point where every New Yorker must question their ability to govern.”
