Seneca Falls: Among the winners of 2009’s PROSE Awards – (The Association for American Publishers’ (AAP) Professional and Scholarly Excellence award) were NYCC’s husband-wife faculty members Kevin V. Ergil, LAc and Marnae C. Ergil, LAc for their Pocket Atlas of Chinese Medicine. The two, associate and full professor respectively at NYCC’s Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, edited and partially authored the book, earning Thieme Medical Publishers, Inc. first place in the category of Nursing & Allied Health. Angelika Findgott, Ergils’ managing editor based in Germany, suggested submitting the book to the AAP for consideration for the award along with letters of support and endorsement from the Ergils, other Chinese medicine publishers, members of the acupuncture community, and faculty members at schools who are considering adopting the book.Learning of their award, Marnae Ergil expressed delight at the honor: “National recognition of a book on Chinese medicine is very important to the development of our field and brings NYCC and the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine’s faculty well deserved national attention.” A panel of 16 AAP judges reviewed all submissions and chose this year’s winners from a record-breaking 441 entries.
