MONTOUR FALLS, NY – In these tough economic times when people across the U.S. are foregoing or putting off healthcare to save money, Schuyler Hospital is offering financial counseling for patients.Schuyler Hospital’s patient representatives verify insurance, answer questions regarding insurance coverage, and help make arrangements to pay for hospital and physician services. Financial assistance, in the form of a sliding fee scale, is also available for the uninsured and the under-insured. In addition, the Hospital offers on-site assistance to apply for Child Health Plus and Family Health Plus.Programs such as the Cancer Services Program are available at Schuyler Hospital, offering free or low-cost screenings and testing. To ensure that patients don’t get stuck with unexpected bills, Schuyler Hospital is implementing a new policy to pre-authorize all scheduled services with insurance companies. For services that are not covered by insurance and for patients without insurance or adequate coverage, the Schuyler Hospital financial counselors will meet with all patients before procedures are completed to make payment arrangements.“By no means do we want the people we serve to neglect their health or the health of their families because of financial difficulties,” said Tracy Gates-Evans, Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer for Schuyler Hospital. “We will do everything we can to help and assure that patients get the care they need.”For more information, contact Schuyler Hospital’s financial counselors at (607) 535-8639 ext. 2321 or 2356, or go to www.schuylerhospital.org
