ITHACA, NY — An expert on race/ethnicity and biracial families will speak at Ithaca College on Tuesday, Feb. 23, as part of a yearlong discussion series on “Race and Immigration.” Titled “Becoming White: Children of Immigrants and White Racial Identity,” the free public talk by George Yancey will be held at 7 p.m. in Klingenstein Lounge, Egbert Hall.Yancey is an associate professor of sociology at the University of North Texas. He is the author of “Beyond Black and White: Reflections on Racial Reconciliation” and “Who Is White?: Latinos, Asians, and the New Black/nonblack Divide”; coauthor of “United by Faith,” and coeditor of “Just Don’t Marry One.” He founded Reconciliation Consulting, an organization that helps churches and ministries develop and sustain a multiracial emphasis.The discussion series is sponsored by the Ithaca College Center for the Study of Culture, Race, and Ethnicity, which is part of the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies.
