Wayland, NY – On January 12, 2010, a devastating earthquake struck in Haiti. Employees of Gunlocke Corporation in Wayland, NY decided they had to do something to help the millions of people suffering after the quake. They took up a collection among employees for the American Red Cross International Response Fund. Gunlocke Corporation is matching the gift from the employees. On Friday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m., Company President Don Mead, along with members of the Social Committee that coordinated this fundraising event, will present a significant donation to representatives from the Clara Barton Chapter #1 of the American Red Cross. The money donated to the International Response Fund will be used for food, water and shelter.Mr. Mead explains, “I am proud of the response of our members to the crisis in Haiti. But not surprised. It’s consistent with our company culture. Our members always rise to the occasion to help those in need, whether they are members of the Gunlocke family, the communities where we live and work or anywhere the need arises. We are also fortunate to be part of an HNI Corporation, who shares our same values and generously matched the money raised by our members. We are also appreciative that we have a great organization like the Red Cross, on the ground delivering the vital assistance so needed by the people of Haiti.” “It‘s so wonderful to see such a concerted effort among the employees at Gunlocke to assist the people suffering in Haiti,” said Sandy Shaw, Executive Director of Clara Barton Chapter #1. “The fact that the company is matching this donation shows their commitment to supporting causes that their employees feel strongly about.” The American Red Cross is focusing on three areas through its emergency responders and partners: • Sending food, including 3 million pre-packaged meals and funding for World Food Program efforts that will enable them to feed up to 1 million people for a month. • Providing clean drinking water, including 3.5 million liters distributed to date in 68 settlements. Each day, the Red Cross is distributing enough water for 100,000 people. • Distributing blankets, tarps, sleeping mats and tents, to homeless families.Directions to Gunlocke Corporation: Take 390 South to Exit 3 (Wayland) and turn left onto Route 21 toward Wayland – we’re approximately 1 mile on the right off Gunlocke Drive.
