ROCHESTER, N.Y., Feb. 3, 2010 — In kicking off its men’s health initiative for 2010, Urology Associates of Rochester announced today its goal to provide 1,000 free prostate-cancer screenings in the coming year.Free screenings will take place at several venues throughout 2010, including local businesses, health fairs and community events. UAR will provide free screenings at the Rochester Golf Show, Feb. 12-14.“Last year, UAR provided numerous free men’s health screenings in our offices and at public events,” said David Dever, M.D., Urology Associates of Rochester. “Now, we are expanding our men’s health initiative, with the goal of screening 1,000 men in the area —and ultimately reducing prostate cancer in our region.”Annual prostate-cancer screenings are recommended for men starting at age 50 to check their PSA, or at age 40 if any close relatives have had the disease.
