Car thief nabbed by vehicle owner in Morava

McIntoshSheriff David Gould reports that The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged Everett C McIntosh age 25 of 12114 State Route 90, Locke New York with the following: • Attempted Robbery 2nd: Motor Vehicle (felony) • Endangering the Welfare of a Child (misdemeanor)On Monday, January 18th, 2010 at 8:13 pm a 911 call was received by the Cayuga County 911 Center with a female stating she was at the car wash in Moravia and that someone had tried to steal her car and her husband was holding him down.Off-duty Cortland County Police Officer Mark Starner had pulled into Sierzenga Suds on South Main Street in Moravia with his wife and young child. Leaving the occupied 2004 Toyota Four Runner running while he made change at the rear of the building, Mr. Starner observed a male run into the wash bay where his vehicle was parked. Mr. Starner followed and observed an unknown male entering the driver seat in an attempt to drive away with the occupied vehicle. Following a brief struggle, Mr. Starner was able to pull the male from the car and hold him while his wife called 911. Moravia Police Department, Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police responded. Everett C McIntosh was taken into custody, arrested and arraigned by the Village Justice. He is being held at the Cayuga County Jail with no bail.
