Ridership to Record Highs

Popular Route Sends Ridership to Record HighsSeneca Transit Service offers the only public bus route through wine country.SENECA FALLS, NY. –Rochester Genesee Regional Transportation Authority (RGRTA) announced record high ridership in August and October 2009 for Seneca Transit Service (STS), the youngest of the Authority’s six regional public transportation systems. “October ridership hit an all time monthly high of 7,909 in Seneca County,” said RGRTA Chief Executive Officer Mark Aesch. “Ridership on STS fixed route and dial-a ride services have been seen a steady increase throughout the year but strong demand in August pushed ridership figures at STS to exceed goal by 17%.”Much of the increase in ridership is attributed to the increasing popularity of the STS fixed route service with stops at wineries along both Cayuga and Seneca Lakes. In 2009 Seneca Transit Service renewed its partnership with the Seneca Falls Development Corporation to provide weekend fixed route service along portions of the Cayuga and Seneca Wine Trails.“We are quite pleased by the results, with ridership increasing 27% in our second year in operation,” according to Bob Buccieri, Director of the Seneca Falls Development Corporation, “Most encouraging has been the number of compliments given to our drivers who have taken the initiative and treated all our visitors as valued guests. The Seneca Wine Tour has set a precedent as the only public bus tour in America that will be hard to equal, and it would not have been possible without the work of Seneca Transit and their staff.”STS continues to maintain longstanding relationships with public service agencies such as Seneca-Cayuga ARC and Seneca County Office for the Aging.“Partnerships with public and private organizations allow STS to provide safe, reliable and low-cost public transportation in Seneca County,” said Aesch “When spending taxpayer dollars we continually reflect on what we are doing and how we can improve to make our service better.”STS is located in the center of the Finger Lakes Wine Country in Seneca County. STS buses travel through some of the regions most beautiful countryside along Seneca and Cayuga Lakes stopping in villages steeped in history. STS offers the only public bus routes through wine country.
