The Red Kettle Campaign in Canandaigua is $5,000 behind, compared to the same time last year, reported Captain Robert Ginter, director of the local Salvation Army. “So far, we’ve raised $25,000 toward our $65,000 goal,” he said. He attributed the shortfall to the tough economy, and fewer bellringers and kettle sites. “We need more volunteer bell ringers, especially Monday thru Friday in the mornings, afternoons and evenings. We would like to have as many bellringers out as possible between now and Christmas,” he said. Individuals and groups who could take four-hour shifts, or adopt a kettle for a day, are especially needed, he said. The community may help in several ways: 1. Volunteer to be a bellringer (especially groups). Call The Salvation Army locally at 585-394-6968; call The Red Kettle Center (toll free) at 1-877-764-7259, or go on-line toredkettles.org. 2. Become a virtual bellringer by going to onlineredkettle.org. 3. Send a tax-deductible check directly to the Canandaigua Salvation Army at 110 Saltonstall St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. Captain Ginter added: “This year we’re helping more families than last year. We thank the caring people of this community who make this possible.”
