WCHS announces Wing It! winners

The Wayne County Historical Society Museum of Wayne County History held their first Buffalo style Chicken Wing competition at the museum on November 13. The Wing It! was well attended and by restauranteurs and residents alike with 12 types of Buffalo style chicken wings entered in the competition. All of the competitors were up against the Buffalo style chicken wings that Abigail’s Restaurant entered in the competition. “I asked Abigail’s to enter their wings since they had won the state wide “Chicken Wing Hunt” that was filmed by Matt Reynolds,” said Executive Director of the Museum, Larry Ann Evans who went on to say, “The judges didn’t know which wings they were and at the end of the competition each one said they were the best, but didn’t get rate high because they were cold.”The celebrity judges included Ben “Thor” Beavers, professional wing eater and Jerry Ashley, Lyons Main Street Program Director. The first three people through the door were deemed the other three judges and they were Jack McCraneals, Stuart Smart and a mother and son team, Beth and Derek Michaels. During the judging contestants and wing eaters sat down and watched the documentary, “The Great Chicken Wing Hunt”, filmed by Lyons resident and chicken wing enthusiast, Matt Reynolds. The winner of the Wing It! competition was Ciccino’s chicken wings and Sal Franzone was crowned the wing king; second place was taken by Tommy’s Bar in Newark with their buffalo style chicken wing and third place was taken by Lyons Double J’s chicken wings. “Everyone had a lot of fun,” said Evans, “and I think we’re looking for a February date for a chili cookoff!”For more information about this event, call the Museum of Wayne County History at 315-946-4943 or look at the website, www.waynehistory.org The Museum is located at 21 Butternut Street, Lyons NY.
