Today’s news that the state government license plate mandate will not go forward is a huge victory for motorists and an important step toward putting the brakes on a continued ‘nickel and diming’ of New Yorkers. Our Conference voted against the 2009-10 State Budget which contained this and $8.2 billion in taxes and fees, because it was wrong for New York families, wrong for our economy and wrong for the millions of motorists who have been so vocal in opposing it. We will continue leading the effort to roll back other taxes and fees, while advancing real solutions to get New York back on solid financial ground and our state’s budget back into balance. Our Conference and I recognize and thank all the grassroots activists, our partners in the Senate and the courageous County Clerks who joined us in this effort and clearly showed that when New Yorkers speak with one voice, we can stop a bad public policy,” said Assembly Minority Leader Brian M. Kolb (R,I,C-Canandaigua).
