Geneva High Sophomore Wins Savings Bond

A recent career day program paid off quickly for Geneva High School sophomore Howard E. Dews Jr.Howard, 16, of Geneva, won a $100 U.S. Savings Bond after participating in Finger Lakes Works Š with their hands,² a career day for the skilled trades and advanced manufacturing at Rodman Lott & Son Farms in Seneca Falls on Oct. 1. The event was open to high school students from throughout the Finger Lakes area.Howard participated in a designated number of activities at the fourth annual, career day, which made him eligible for a drawing for the Savings Bond. He was one of four winners in the Finger Lakes.Howard said his activities at the event included operating remote-controlled robots and using a jackhammer. He is the son of Judy Avery and hopes toattend college after high school.The event gave local students the opportunity to talk with business people and get hands-on experience with carpentry, painting, operating heavy equipment and other tasks.The Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board Inc., Five Star Bank and state Sen. Michael Nozzolio sponsored the career day. Howard received the SavingsBond from Geneva Branch Manager Mike Rusinko of Five Star Bank.
