Fireworks at upcoming Harvest Fest in The Glen

The third annual Falls Harvest Festival will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10 in downtown Montour Falls. This event will host a full day of activities, including a grand finale of fireworks displayed over the 156 foot high Shequaga Falls in the heart of the village’s historic “Glorious T” district. The fireworks finale will follow a free concert by regional award-winning musician, Joe Crookston, performing from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.This year’s festival runs from 1:00 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and features several contests including Grape Stomping; Pie Eating; Scarecrow and Pumpkin Carving Contests as well as other seasonal activities. Other fun festival features include Schuyler Hospital’s Straw Maze; Fire truck rides by Village fire fighters; a petting zoo of goats and miniature horses; a “jumpy” castle; and live demonstrations by pumpkin carving artist Bob Kappenburg and chainsaw sculptor Mark Watson. Live music acts will also perform throughout the day on the Music Stage, while attendees shop from a market of food, craft and farm vendors.The always popular Historic Ghost Walk – a dramatic walking tour led by the Lake Country Players dressed in costume – returns again with tours every half hour, from 5-8p.m and departs from the Montour Falls Memorial Library on Main Street. A nominal fee is charged to help raise money for the historic library’s continued operation.The Falls Harvest Festival is coordinated by Watkins Glen Promotions of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as with volunteers from across Schuyler County.
