Seneca Sheriff announces child safety events

Seneca County Sheriff Jack Stenberg is pleased to announce that three child safety events will be held in Seneca County with the assistance of local fire departments. These events will offer the Operation Safe Child I.D. program and the Child Safety Seat program. Operation Safe Child furnishes parents and guardians with a Child I.D. card that contains a photograph, fingerprints and biological information. Possessing up-to-date and detailed information about a child can be a crucial proactive measure that can greatly assist law enforcement in responding to a child’s disappearance. These cards will also allow the child’s information to be electronically disseminated, statewide, within minutes and can be used in conjunction with an AMBER Alert. Sheriff Stenberg states: “Time can be our greatest adversary in a missing child case. This program can dramatically increase the possibility of bringing a missing child home unharmed.”The Child Safety Seat program provides trained police officers that inspect child safety seats and properly install them. A limited number of free seats are available. Both of these programs are funded by grants and are free of charge to the public. The events will be held from 10:00 AM till 2:00 PM on:September 19th 2009 at the Ovid Fire Department, 2136 Brown Street, Ovid N.Y.September 26th 2009 at the Fayette Fire Department, 4200 Route 414, Fayette N.Y.October 10th 2009 at the Border City Fire Department, Serven Firehouse, 354 Waterloo-Geneva Rd, Waterloo N.Y.
