NASCAR “Thunder in the Glen” Schedule

“Thunder in the Glen” sponsored by Vern Morgan’s Auto Sales, scheduled for August 7th, will have new and thrilling events for attendees to look forward to this year. The event will run from 4-9 p.m. along Franklin Street in downtown Watkins Glen. The event has free admission and free parking. Focused entirely around racing excitement, this event attracts many community members and fans that are in town for the NASCAR race at Watkins Glen International that weekend. This year’s event will feature live entertainment by “Ragged Sole” from 5-9 p.m. at Community Bank and is sponsored by Jerlando’s Pizza, and the newly opened Seneca Lake General Store. Mr. Twister and a Blues Clues inflatable character will also be on hand to aide in the evening’s entertainment.Subway will host a unique Show Car for its franchise from 4-9 p.m. A Classic Car show will take place at Specchio Ford as well, where music from the 1950’s can be enjoyed by Ultimate Sound.The US Army’s climbing wall and race simulator will be back this year by popular demand, and will be located at 3rd and Franklin Streets.At 8 p.m. there will be a drawing at Specchio Ford for a chance to win a pair of tickets to the big race on Sunday! Other great prizes can be won at that time as well, but you must be present to win. To be entered into the drawing, you can purchase your Thunder Prize Card at many local downtown businesses including Subway, Verizon, Jerlando’s Pizzeria, Seneca Lake General Store, The Shop, Famous Brands, and at the Chamber office. Thunder in the Glen is a unique event filled with festival fun, including food vendors, show cars, LIVE music, children’s entertainment, and a Classic Car Show. It’s a day of entertainment for the whole family! This free event is coordinated by Watkins Glen Promotions of the Watkins Glen Area Chamber of Commerce, as well as with volunteers from across Schuyler County.
