On July 26 2009 at 10:55 pm, the Odessa Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 1260 Crans Road in the Town of Montour. Upon the Odessa Fire Departments arrival they found a two story garage that was fully involved in fire. A second alarm was requested by Odessa Fire Chief John Jelliff bringing mutual aid from the Millport, Montour Falls, Town & Country and Watkins Glen Fire Departments. A residence was located within close proximity to the fire building. This building received some exterior damage but was saved due to the quick efforts of firefighters. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries at the scene. One was treated on scene by the Odessa Rescue Squad and the other firefighter was transported to Schuyler Hospital by Schuyler Ambulance and was later released. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Odessa Fire Department but is not believed to be of a suspicious nature. The garage was a total loss but was insured. The Mecklenburg Fire Department provided standby coverage for Odessa during the fire.
