The Auburn Player’s Community Theatre presents William Shakespeare’s timeless comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing” directed by Jamie Bruno with assitant director Collin Sullivan. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s, the actors remain faithful to Shakespeare’s original text. For those unfamiliar with the play, Much Ado About Nothing is a love story at heart. There is love at first sight, as Claudio (Shaminda Amarakoon) falls hopelessly in love with Hero (Alicia Frame). There is also a slightly more complicated love between Benedick (Simon Moody) and Beatrice (Liz Dapo). Their history of exchanging barbed insults slowly and comically turns into a guarded courtship after each is told that in truth the other harbors a secret crush on the object of his or her disdain. This comic love story could easily turn to catastrophe after the treachery of a jealous prince (Gabe Infantino), but fortunately there is the interference of a comical, bungling constable Dogberry (Joel Weirick) who discovers the plot and sets the wheels in motion for a happy ending. Robert Frame, Jack Sherman, Matt Nilsen, Tom Hoey, Esther Taylor-Weiss, Suzanne Smith, Brien Bianchi and Alan Clugston round out the cast of this thoroughly enjoyable and affordable classic. Much Ado About Nothing runs April 24-26 and May 1-3 at the Irene A. Bisgrove Theatre at Cayuga Community College. Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm and Sundays at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and seniors. For more information, please call (315) 406-7435.
