On April 2, fourteen members of the current 4-H woodworking class visited Chicone Builders and Cabinetmakers, a 50 year old local business. Vincent Chicone gave a wonderful tour of how to build cabinets and furniture by hand using some of his grandfather’s tools. He also showed some furniture work done for Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello Estate and other hand crafted pieces. We learned about many hand and power tools that he now uses along with a state of the art painting booth. What a great experience for the students. The students have also built bluebird houses that they will donate to Clute Park and the Watkins State Park as well. For information on how to become involved in woodworking and other great opportunities through 4-H, call 607-535-7161 or visit www.cce.cornell.edu/schuyler.
