Alaska will always be connected to Auburn, an upstate New York city that sits on the eastern edge of the Finger Lakes. That connection will be highlighted on June 6, when Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is set to visit the city and help the Seward House foundation celebrate 50 years of Alaska statehood.Auburn was the home of William Seward, the U.S. secretary of state under Presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867.Seward House officials say Palin has tentatively accepted an invitation to speak at their celebration.
