SFPD releases information on Thursday night’s fire

Seneca Falls firefighters were dispatched to 140 Fall St. in the Village for the report of smoke coming from a church building. Upon arrival there was smoke and flames coming from the roof of the Women’s Interfaith Chapel, a large brick structure located at the NW corner of Fall and Clinton St.Mutual aid was immediately requested from the Waterloo, and Red Jacket fire departments. Geneva Fire Department was requested to the scene with their Quint. Aurelius Fire Department provided a FAST team at the scene. Seneca Falls Quint 1 arrived on the scene and within a few minutes was putting water on the roof of the building from the aerial platform. The visible fire was quickly knocked down but heavy fire was still burning inside between the roof and ceiling. Ovid Fire Department was called to bring their ladder truck to the scene to access the rear of the building.It took fire departments on the scene about two hours to completely bring the fire under control. The building suffered heavy fire damage to the roof structure and extensive smoke and water damage throughout.Fayette, Border City, and Clyde Fire Departments provided assistance at the scene and station fill-ins for departments at the scene. Also assisting at the scene was the Waterloo Fire Departments Ladies Auxillary, The American Red Cross and North Seneca Ambulance.No injuries were reported.The Cause of the Fire is Still Under Investigation at this time.
