Main Street grant awarded to Montour Falls

State Senator George Winner (R-C-I, Elmira)said today that the city of Elmira and the village of Montour Falls will be awarded state funding through the New York Main Street program.The grants were announced today at the Capitol by the state Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR).“We envisioned the Main Street program as yet another building block in the restoration and revitalization of quality communities throughout theSouthern Tier-Finger Lakes region and across New York,” said Winner. “It’s proven successful in sparking local economic development, creating local jobs, and energizing community pride.”The Main Street program, created by the Legislature in 2004, has distributed more than $42 million to over 130 local communities statewide.The program is designed provide funding and technical assistance to business improvement districts and other not-for-profit organizations forthe revitalization of historic downtowns, mixed-use neighborhood commercial districts, and village centers.Winner said that the following local funding is included in today’s announcement: > Elmira Downtown Development, $450,000 > Village of Montour Falls, $465,000.Additional information can be found on the DHCR Web site at www.nysdhcr.gov.
