Serious accident on 96A in Varick

Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports, Deputies responded to a serious personal injury car/tractor trailer motor vehicle accident on RT 96A in the Town of Varick. A vehicle being operated by Amber Reeder, 21, of 4586 RT 96A, Geneva, NY, was traveling northbound on State Route 96A, when Reeder lost control of the vehicle due to slippery pavement. Reeder attempted to regain control of the vehicle but was unsuccessful causing the vehicle to slide into the southbound lane of the highway. A semi hauling a trailer of liquefied petroleum gas, operated by Frederick Vanelburg, 51, of 2483 Pt Davidson Rd R2, Smithville, Ontario Canada, was traveling southbound on State Route 96A, which struck the vehicle, causing it to leave the east side of the roadway, coming to a stop in the ditch. The driver and front passenger Rodney Andrews, 25,of 5849 RT 96A, Romulus, NY, were trapped in the wreckage and were extricated by the fire department. The back seat passenger Ashlee MCallister, 22, of 926 Briargate Ln, Glendora, CA was removed from the vehicle by fire fighters. Reeder was transported to Geneva General Hospital by South Seneca Ambulance with a broken leg and possible fractured pelvis, MCallister was transported to Geneva General Hospital by South Seneca Ambulance with a broken leg, Andrews was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Finger Lakes Ambulance with two broken legs and remains in guarded condition , and Vanelburg was transported to Geneva General Hospital by Hector Ambulance and was treated and released for back pain. Deputies report Reeder’s vehicle was demolished, the tractor trailer sustained serious front end damage, both were towed from the scene. The accident remains under investigation.
