Local officials are investigating a motor vehicle accident involving a marked Sheriff’s Patrol unit. Deputies state that Deputy Sheriff James B Chechak age 21 of Seneca Falls , was southbound on Rt 96 in Covert , in route to a burglar alarm at a business in the Town of Covert , when he hit an icy section of roadway , causing him to slide off the road and hit a telephone pole, then striking a barn at 8139 Rt 96 Interlaken , owned by John C Hunt age 60 of that address. Interlaken Rescue and South Seneca Ambulance responded and Chechak was transported to Cayuga Medical Center by South Seneca Ambulance , where he was treated and released for a contusion of his shoulder from the seat belt and several abrasions . The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene, the investigation is continuing.
