Members of the local community are invited to join in Ithaca College’s sixth annual Veterans Day Celebration on Tuesday, November 11. The event will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Ford Hall, Whalen Center. Those attending from off campus can park in the Visitor Lot.The guest speaker will be David West, director of the Bath VA Medical Center, with opening remarks from Ithaca College president Tom Rochon. Representatives from the Ithaca College/Cornell University ROTC program will post the colors, and music will be provided by the IC VoICes employee chorus and the Ithaca College Brass Choir. The IC Quilters group will present West with a handsewn “Quilt of Valor” for him to give to a patient at the hospital. The community is also invited to be an important part of the Veterans Day celebration by contributing to an “Appreciation Book” that will be given to West. The book will be filled with notes, tributes, cards and letters for West to take back to the current patients at the VA hospital. It doesn’t have to be anything special — a simple “Thank you for your service” would be most appreciated.Notes can be e-mailed to [email protected]. A hard-copy note or card can be sent to: Patricia Phelps, Ithaca College, School of Music, 953 Danby Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850-7000. All notes must be received by November 3.The event is sponsored by the Ithaca College Veterans Day Committee, School of Music, and Division of Finance and Administration. For more information, visit http://www.ithaca.edu/veterans/ or contact Patricia Phelps at (607) 274-3370 or [email protected].
