Right around the corner is the second annual Falls Harvest Festival, slated for Saturday, October 11th, which falls on Columbus Day weekend as well as the Canadian Thanksgiving holiday. Organized by the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce/ Watkins Glen Promotions, the event will run from 1:00pm to 8:00pm and will be held on West Main Street in downtown Montour Falls. This year, Cargill Inc. will be the title sponsor.Currently, there is still space for additional vendors to sign up. The committee is particularly committed to highlighting regional products that showcase the creativity and harvest bounty of local farms. Small producers of handmade products such as honey, soaps and lotions, dry flower arrangements, jewelry and plant and flower vendors are also encouraged. “The Festival provides great exposure.” said Antoinette Di Ciaccio, former event chair. “Last year’s event, on the same weekend, drew an estimated crowd of 4,000 patrons with consistent traffic throughout the day,” she added. The picturesque setting, with 156 foot Shequagua Falls in full view, and with the central location- being just off State Route 14; the byway to the nearby Seneca Wine Trail and Watkins Glen State Park, are also added benefits. Additionally, the Village of Montour Falls is within 25 miles from Corning’s Gaffer District, and Ithaca—home of Cornell University and Ithaca College.Vendor applications and additional information about the event are available by visiting the Festival’s website at http://www.watkinsglen.com/promotions/harvest/ or by contacting Carole Pierce, Events Manager for the Schuyler County Chamber of Commerce/ Watkins Glen Promotions at 607-535-3003.
