Ithaca College senior Revital Roza and her funk-influenced band The Rozatones took top honors in ABC News’s battle of superstar interns. After hearing Roza and her band perform against rival singer and fellow intern ShaLyse Walker on the August 17 broadcast of Good Morning America Weekend Edition, thousands of viewers voted for the best performer. Roza and her band — composed entirely of Ithaca College students — were named the winners on the August 24 show.Roza and Walker, a student at Brigham Young University, spent the summer interning at Good Morning America Weekend Edition. When the producers discovered their interns were also talented singers, arrangements were made for Roza and Walker to compete in a viewer-arbitrated faceoff.Roza’s performance may be viewed at http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=5593538.“In my music, I like to fuse genres from different stylistic and cultural backgrounds,” Roza said. “It’s funk, rock, bossa nova, with hints of jazz and an underlying theme of soul. I feel that my music is refreshing and sophisticated next to a lot of the cliché mainstream music that’s being put out there right now.”Roza is a television-radio major in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
