UCE & IACAC Announce Motorcades

Governor David Paterson and our State Legislators begin lengthy discussions this coming Tuesday, 8/19/08, in Albany, to deal with a $6.4B 2009-2010 Budget deficit. The Indian Affairs Citizen Advisory Committee and the UCE (Cayuga – Seneca Chapter) are also having a meeting the same day. The meeting agenda will focus on the issue of Governor Paterson not enforcing the collection of sales tax from tribal enterprises in Seneca and Cayuga counties. Here are the details:Initial Planning Meeting (open to the public) Tuesday, 8/19/08, 7:00pm, SMS Hall, Ovid St., Seneca Falls, N.Y. Purpose is to organize motorcade(s) as follows:Saturday, October 4, 2008 – 1st Motorcade taking place in Seneca and Cayuga CountiesMonday, November 3, 2008 – 2nd Motorcade to Albany (tentative). This motorcade may be needed if our State Legislators and Governor are not yet enforcing the collection of sales taxes from tribal establishments (fyi – the following day, Tuesday, 11/4/08, happens to be election day for many of our elected leaders). Once again, our timing is right. At the monthly UCE meeting held last night at the Canoga Fire Hall, the two groups requested that Rich Ricci and Brad Jones be Co- Chairs of thes two motorcades (both have accepted the challenge, but we will need many of you to volunteer on Tuesday to fill many key positions. We will appoint an executive committee as well. Many thanks to Rodman and Ellen Lott, long time UCE members, who offered their farm land on Ovid St. for parking / staging for the motorcade procession on Saturday, October, 4, 2008. This will be our start point.Tentative plans are to have cars start arriving anytime after 7:00am that day, with some speeches beginning at 8:30am, and then start the motorcade at approximately 9:30am. On Tuesday evening, Rich and Brad will share the proposed route within our two counties. We will be approaching both County Sheriff departments and the State Police to help us abide by all laws. Since we expect a huge rally, we will ask them for their support that day.We plan to invite all our elected leaders at both the Federal and State Levels of government that represent Cayuga and Seneca Counties. There will be no speeches, but we will ask them to make a pledge to all in attendance that they will indeed vote for enforcing Governor Paterson to collect the sales tax immediately. It will be interesting to see which leaders join us, and which leaders decide not to. Remember, election day is two months away. Any other individuals running for state offices in November will be invitrf to attend as well.We will also request both Seneca County and Cayuga County Board of Supervisors to join us on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 for a formal Press Conference. Time and place to be decided at this Tuesday’s meeting. Many more details will be shared Tuesday evening. Please join us – it’s time for the residents of Cayuga and Seneca County to be pro-active.Mark your calendars as follows:Tuesday, 8/19/08 – initial planning meeting, SMS, 7:00pmWednesday, 9/3/08 – Indian Affairs Citizens Advisory Committee / UCE Press ConferenceSaturday, 10/4/08 – Motorcade within Cayuga / Seneca CountiesMonday, 11/3/08 – Motorcade to Albany (if needed)Tuesday, 11/4/08 – Election DayRich Ricci told me he won’t be happy unless we have a minimum of 600 cars on Saturday, 10/4/08.
