Geneva Salvation Army Needs Help

Requests for food and assistance with utilities have spiked to emergency levels, announced Lts. Francisco and Wanda Rivera, the recently appointed co-commanding officers of the Geneva Salvation Army.“Our Food Pantry is overwhelmed with requests,” said Lt. Francisco Rivera. Plus, “many people have been coming in because their utilities are being shut off. We have had to reduce the amount we give per voucher in order to assist more people.”“We are being stretched to the limit because there are so many people in need,” he noted, adding that he believes that the high cost of gasoline and increasing food costs are hurting those people living on low wages. “They find themselves forced to choose between rent, utilities, gas to get to work, food or medicines. It’s very worrisome.”The Salvation Army is struggling to meet the demand and could use some assistance, said the lieutenant.Individuals interested in helping can send their tax-deductible gift to: The Salvation Army, 41 North Street – P.O. Box 532, Geneva, NY 14456-0532.The lieutenant added: “I know that everyone is struggling with the downturn of the economy. Just imagine what our low-income families are experiencing. Please help us help them. Thank you!”
