Hazmat crews were called to the scene of a chemical spill along Ovid Street in the village of Seneca Falls on Tuesday evening.Ovid Street, also known as Route 414, was closed between Maynard Street and Fall Street well into the late evening hours as crews worked to clean-up the spill. Village police say a pickup truck was carrying propoinic acid, and the tank started leaking the acid onto the road. The spill has also triggered a state of emergency for the village. Neighbors were told to stay inside, and to keep their doors and windows shut. Hydrants were being run to wash away the mess. Officials advise that if residents get rusty water from your faucets, just run the water until it’s clear.
