Open House at Lyons’ FL Works One-Stop – FingerLakes1.com Archive

Local, state and federal elected officials have been invited to attend the open house at the Finger Lakes Works One Stop Career Center on Thursday, May 22, 2008 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. The Career Center is located at 1519 Nye Rd., Suites 600 – 601 (2nd floor of the Public Health building), Lyons, NY. The public is also invited to stop in and learn about the services available in this office.Finger Lakes Works Career Centers provide free, comprehensive services for job seekers and businesses including, but not limited to, job readiness workshops, fully-equipped resource rooms for job seeking, referrals to job openings, career guidance and assessments, job recruitments and job fairs and a dedicated Business Services staff. The Career Center is the culmination of the relocation of the New York State Department of Labor from their former office in Newark and the Wayne County Workforce Development office from Church Street in Lyons to the Nye Road location.Karen Springmeier, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board says “The Finger Lakes Works Centers are certified by the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board biannually to assure quality services are provided to our customers. We are proud of our accomplishments.” These accomplishments over the last program year include: • 9,152 people who were registered through the One-Stop system• 1327 workers received assistance in re-entering employment after a layoff• Two Finger Lakes Works Job Fairs were held, facilitating connections between 41 businesses and 420 job seekers• Services provided to 776 businesses• On-site recruitments were held for 83 businesses• Assistance to 33 area businesses with applications for state and regional training grants resulting in $809,306.00 in awards• Facilitation of on-the-job training programs for 49 participants at 24 businesses for which those businesses received $145,266 in wage reimbursementsThe mission of the Finger Lakes Workforce Investment Board is to improve the economic well being of job seekers and employers in the region by aligning human potential with opportunities in the workplace. The Finger Lakes Works network of partners and providers carries out this mission through our One Stop system.
