Frank Knight Elementary School in Seneca Falls, New York, will be celebrating their 25th annual Reading Week May 12th through 17th. The theme for this year is Yo-Ho-Ho! And a Barrel of Books! We Pirates Read and Write at Frank Knight. The featured author is Melinda Long. Her books include How I Became A Pirate and Pirates Don’t Change Diapers. She will speak to the students and autograph books on Wednesday, May 14. On Monday, May 12- Students will dress like pirates and see Gary the Happy Pirate. Gary the Happy Pirate will also be in concert at Frank Knight School for Family Night beginning at 6:30.Tuesday, May 13- Read-a-Shirt day and teachers will read a story to a different class during the teacher exchange. We will have a Pirate Invasion at 2:10 when Amylynn Marley’s eighth grade class comes in to read stories they wrote to each class. Wednesday, May 14- Students will Talk-like-a-Pirate and meet Melinda Long. She will talk about her writing process as an author. Every student will receive an autographed copy of her book How I became a Pirate donated by Frank Knight Parent’s Team. More information about Melinda Long can be found on her website mlong@melindalongbooks.com.Thursday, May 15- Students will wear Pirate head gear.On Friday, May 16- If the children meet their reading goal, our Principal and her crew will “walk the plank” and be dunked in a dunking booth at 1:30. There will be fun reading activities daily. These include: *Each classroom will have a guest reader from our community. *Students may bring in books to exchange at the Book Exchange. *Students will turn off the TV and read at home to try to meet the Principal’s challenge. *Students will collect pennies for the Pirate Toy Fund. Our School will be decorated with a pirate theme, including a ship. Students will wear student designed T-shirts and buttons. We look forward to this week that celebrates reading and writing!
