Laughing Stock, by Charles Morey, is a hilarious backstage farce and genuinely affectionate look into the world of the theatre. When The Playhouse, a rustic New England summer theatre, schedules a repertory season of Dracula, Hamlet and Charley’s Aunt, comic mayhem ensues. We follow the well-intentioned company from outrageous auditions to ego-driven rehearsals through opening nights gone disastrously awry to the elation of a great play well told and the comic and nostalgic season close. The Playhouse cast and crew is led by Eric Jansen, as Gordon, the owner of the theater company. The middle-aged artistic director takes the random and comical cast and crew on a wild ride. The comical cast includes Elaine Buisch as Sarah; Mariah Ernhout as Susannah; Pat Fegley as Jack; John King as Vernon; Liz Olmstead as Karma; Charlotte Cline as Braun and Dan Papperman as Tyler. Rounding out the cast is Jim Porto as Henry; Paul Wenderlich as Richfield; Adrienne Seese as Mary and Doris Wolf as Daisy.Laughing Stock premiered at the Pioneer Theatre Company on February 7, 2001; was nominated for the 2001 American Theatre Critic’s Association New Play Award, and won the Best Original Play Award from the New Hampshire Theatre Association in 2004.Produced locally by John King and Directed by Walter Wolf, Laughing Stock’s Staff and Crew includes: Becky Bly, Technical Director; Peter Bown, Stage Manager; Lynn Patti, Set Design; John King, Jr.,Master Carpenter; Christopher King, Carpenter; Kris Marble, Graphic Design/Publicity; Kristen Lanphear, Costumes; Mary Kelleher, Props; Kim Brown, Hair/Makeup; Ralph Sinicropi, Lighting; Bryson Frederick, Sound and Jen Mitchell, Head of House.
