Hip Hop Poetry Squad Coming to Seneca Falls

On Saturday, March 29th the internationally known hip-hop band ReadNex Poetry Squad will be performing at South Seneca High School. The concert begins at 2 pm and is free to the public. The South Seneca and Romulus Surge After School Programs are sponsoring this event.The purpose of the Readnex Poetry Squad is to educate listeners on a range of social issues. Singing under the motto, “music with a cause, not just because”, their music blends together conscious social commentary with influences from Hip-Hop, Soul, Latin and Caribbean music. The Band has sold over 6,000 CD’s and has toured in places like England, Germany, France, Berlin, South America, and Ireland. Currently they are touring the United States in one of their largest “Underground Hip Hop tours.”The Squad will also be conducting a workshop during the South Seneca High and Middle School Surge After School Programs titled “Hip-Hop and Poetry Saved My Life” on Friday, March 28th from 2:15-5:15 pm. The students have been participating in a year long poetry unit and are excited to have the ReadNex Poetry Squad come work with them. The Squad’s workshop was created to help today’s youth build their confidence and self-esteem through the power of poetry. The program was started in 2004, in Newburgh, NY and is now being considered as an after school curriculum all over New York State.
