Ithaca’s Green St. Garage To Re-Open Monday

City of Ithaca Mayor Carolyn Peterson announced earlier today that the Green Street Garage will partially re-open on Monday, March 10th, 2008. Approximately 300 parking spaces in the garage will be available. For the month of March, these spaces will be available for transients (daily/hourly) parking only. The first hour of parking is free of charge. The parking rate thereafter is $1.00 per hour. Parking rates will be charged between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Evenings and weekends remain free.Downtown Ithaca Alliance Executive Director Gary Ferguson says, ‘We applaud the effort by the city to re-open the garage as well as their commitment to assisting the businesses of the downtown area. The D.I.A. would also like to commend the downtown owners and businesses who’ve persisted and persevered over the past months while the garage was completely closed. The commitment they’ve shown is a demonstration of the rugged individualism and independent spirit so necessary in today’s business world.’The D.I.A. will be working with the city to help market the reopened garage and will assist in training people to use the new ‘pay and display’ parking system on the ground floor lot.
